GENOMIC STRUCTURE OF A GENE

This page describes how to retrieve genomic organization (exons/introns) of a gene starting from a known gene name/accession number.  To do this we make use of the genomic information maintained by the EMBL at the Ensembl website.
  1. Go to the Ensembl website.
  2. Click on a link to an organism of interest, (Homo sapiens, for example).
  3. At the top of the page you will see a box labelled "Search for:" - select "Gene" from pull down menu.
  4. Enter the gene symbol (i.e. SYNGR1) and click Go.
  5. Select one entry from the list of hits returned to see a Gene Report.
  6. Scroll down to the "Transcripts" section and click the "Transcript Info" link for one or more transcripts.
